The Drive
Up I-70, through the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnel at over 11,000 feet, then down into Summit County. CDOT has recorded roughly 2,900 vehicles per hour through the tunnel on peak ski weekends.
That is the bottleneck, and it is worst on Saturday mornings westbound and Sunday afternoons eastbound. A flat rate means a two-hour drive that becomes three costs the same either way.

Night Skiing Changes the Day
Keystone runs one of Colorado’s larger night-skiing operations, which is genuinely unusual and worth planning around.
It also means a later return. If you are skiing until nine, the drive home is two hours of dark mountain road afterwards — on tired legs, through the tunnel, in winter.

Traction Law Applies the Whole Way
CDOT enforces the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law on the I-70 corridor between Dotsero and Morrison from 1 September to 31 May, and the requirements cover tread depth and tyre type even on all-wheel drive vehicles.
