Here is the fact that matters most and gets mentioned least. For the 2026/27 season, Epic and Ikon share zero resorts. Not one, anywhere in the world.
Whichever pass you buy locks you into that network for the season. Which means it also decides, for the next five months, which direction you drive on a Saturday morning. Epic Pass vs Ikon Pass Boulder transportation is really a question about your winter commute.

Your Pass, Your Drive
| Resort | Pass | Miles from Boulder | Drive time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eldora | Ikon | 22 | 45 min |
| Arapahoe Basin | Ikon | ~95 | 1h 45m |
| Keystone | Epic | ~90 | 1h 50m |
| Breckenridge | Epic | 98 | 1h 50m |
| Copper Mountain | Ikon | ~100 | 1h 45m |
| Winter Park | Ikon | ~85 | 2h |
| Vail | Epic | 118 | 2h 10m |
| Beaver Creek | Epic | 128 | 2h 20m |
| Steamboat | Ikon | 172 | 3h |
| Aspen Snowmass | Ikon | 218 | 4h |
Read that column of drive times, because it is the part pass comparisons skip. Epic’s Colorado mountains all sit past the Eisenhower Tunnel. Ikon’s include the two closest options to Boulder by a wide margin.
The Boulder-Specific Argument for Ikon
Eldora is 45 minutes away. Nothing on Epic comes close.
For a Boulder skier who wants weeknight or half-day laps, that is decisive on its own. Add Winter Park over Berthoud Pass, which avoids the tunnel entirely, and A-Basin now unlimited on the Ikon Base Pass after Alterra’s 2024 acquisition, and the geography favours Ikon heavily from this side of the range.
The Boulder-Specific Argument for Epic
Epic’s Colorado mountains are bigger. Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone are destination resorts, and if your skiing is weekend trips rather than weeknight laps, size beats proximity.
Epic also runs a transportation perk — pass holders get 20% off transportation from Denver International to Colorado ski areas. Worth checking against our flat $270 Denver airport car service rate to see which lands lower for your group, since a Denver airport car service booking covers the vehicle rather than the seat.

The Blackout Dates Nobody Reads
This is where pass buyers get caught, and it is a transportation problem as much as a lift-ticket one.
The Ikon Base Pass and Session Pass are blacked out 26–30 December 2026, 16–17 January 2027, and 13–14 February 2027. The full Ikon Pass carries no blackouts anywhere.
Those blackout windows are exactly when everyone else is booking vehicles. If your pass does not work on 27 December, you are either not skiing or paying a window rate somewhere else — and either way you should know now rather than in December.
The Third Option Both Comparisons Ignore
Loveland is on neither pass. Neither is a lift ticket bought at the window on a blackout day.
Loveland sits before the tunnel, roughly an hour and twenty from Boulder, and it is the standard answer for Front Range skiers whose pass is blacked out. Details on our Loveland Ski Area page.
Flat Rates to Both Networks
We run to every mountain on both passes at published flat rates, confirmed in writing before you ride.
| Destination | Network | Flat rate |
|---|---|---|
| Eldora | Ikon | $800 |
| Breckenridge | Epic | $650 |
| Vail | Epic | $650 |
| Beaver Creek | Epic | $650 |
| Steamboat Springs | Ikon | $1,100 |
| Aspen | Ikon | $1,250 |
| Denver International | Either | $270 |
Mountain routes include one complimentary 15-minute stop. The full rate card covers every published route, and a Boulder car service quote never changes after booking — no surge, no meter, no holiday premium. A flat Boulder car service rate is the same on 27 December as on a quiet Tuesday.

A Ford Transit High Roof takes fourteen. Full specifications on the fleet page.
Splitting a Pass Across a Group
Groups rarely all hold the same pass, which is where transport gets complicated. One vehicle serving four Ikon holders and two Epic holders needs two destinations, not one.
Beyond fourteen, a Boulder transportation service booking runs multiple vehicles on one coordinated itinerary. Every Boulder transportation service quote covers the whole party in a single number, and a Boulder transportation service block booking can lock vehicles across a season of mixed destinations.
Traction Law Applies to Both Networks
CDOT enforces the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law from 1 September to 31 May on the I-70 corridor, and the requirements cover tread depth and tyre type even on all-wheel drive vehicles. Rental fleets frequently fall short.
Every Mayflower Boulder Limo vehicle is four-wheel drive and compliant year-round. Check COtrip before travelling.
Mayflower Boulder Limo Chauffeur Service Standards
Mayflower Boulder Limo is certified by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, carries the highest insurance limits in the state, and holds a ★ 4.97 rating.
Our Boulder chauffeur service runs background-checked, mountain-trained chauffeurs with GPS fleet tracking. A Boulder chauffeur service that drives both corridors weekly knows the tunnel and Berthoud Pass equally, and any Boulder chauffeur service running these roads since 2000 knows which one to commit to on a given forecast.

Booking Either Way
Midweek needs 24 to 48 hours. Weekends need three to seven days. Christmas, New Year, MLK, Presidents’ Day and spring break need two to three weeks — and note those overlap almost exactly with the Ikon Base blackout dates, which is not a coincidence.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. A Boulder limo service account bills monthly for clubs and companies through our corporate travel page, and a Boulder limo service booking also covers mountain celebrations via our special events page. Our full mountain work sits on the ski resort transfers page, and the season planner on our 2026/27 ski shuttle guide.
Pass details are published by Epic Pass and Ikon Pass. Confirm current terms before buying.
